South Carolina land trust members are the hands actively working to implement the conservation visions of landowners and to protect our state’s natural resources. This work starts with the land but continues only through the commitment of individuals who share a desire to steward and advocate for these resources.
Land trust members build long-lasting relationships with landowners thereby creating a partnership which centers around properly caring for the land. Professionals in this field are the feet on the ground, the ideas put into action. And the more properties there are under easement, the greater the need for individuals passionate about land protection. The healthy future of our state and our communities depends upon the work that we do.
Within the SC Land Trust Network (LTN) members find an interconnected and encouraging community of like-minded people. We share not only the values of land protection, but also the idea that a unified group is stronger than one which stands alone. This is the power of our network.
A land trust is a nonprofit organization that, as all or part of its mission, actively works to conserve land by acquiring property or conservation easements. South Carolina Land Trust Network members generally work in geographies defined by watersheds.
The accreditation seal is a mark of distinction in land conservation. It is awarded to land trusts that primarily work on easements and who meet the highest national standards for excellence and conservation permanence. Each accredited land trust completes a rigorous review process and joins a network of organizations united by strong ethical practices. This trusted network of land trusts has demonstrated fiscal accountability, strong organizational leadership, sound transactions and lasting stewardship of the lands they conserve.
